MACq 01 is a storytelling hotel overlooking Sullivans Cove on Hobart's historic waterfront. Designed by Circa Morris Nunn, the hotel is built around Tasmania's rich and often notorious past. Each of the 114 rooms is named after an illustrious or infamous Tasmanian figure: convicts, captains of industry, explorers and rogues.

Red Jelly developed the concept and I was commissioned to bring these characters to life through illustration, giving a face and a presence to figures who had shaped the island's history.

A large-scale undertaking and a rare opportunity to translate local history into an immersive spatial experience. Each character needed to feel distinctive and rooted in their era, while sitting cohesively alongside the others across the hotel's interiors.
