NOT JUST SPACE FILLERS
Visuals that
do the heavy lifting
Custom illustration that earns its place on the page. Made for brands, publishers and organisations who want their visuals to actually mean something.
MORE THAN PRETTY PICTURES
Great illustration doesn't decorate your message. It is your message.
-
Illustration is visual storytelling. Unlike stock imagery, it's created specifically for your message, your audience and your goals. It lets you explain ideas, create emotion and build recognition in a way that feels genuinely unique to your project, your brand or your campaign. Good illustration doesn't just look nice, it helps people understand, remember and engage.
-
Illustration can help you stand out from generic visuals and stock photography, explain complex ideas clearly, create emotional connection and personality, build a consistent visual identity, and make information more engaging and memorable across multiple formats and platforms.

HOW I WORK
Good work starts with a good conversation.
Every project starts with a conversation about your goals, your audience and what you actually need to say.
From there, I develop a visual approach shaped around your specific needs, whether that's a single illustration or a full illustration system built to work across multiple formats and applications.
I work collaboratively with publishers, agencies and organisations. That means clear communication, no nasty surprises and artwork you've had a say in and are genuinely happy with, from first sketch through to final files.
The creative process
-
Let's get on the same page (and the same mood board)!
We’ve had our initial chat, you’ve sent a brief, I have sent an estimate and you’ve accepted it.
Now we start! You'll put down a 30% deposit, then we jump on a call to talk through your project goals, audience, and artistic direction. Bring your references, your Pinterest rabbit holes, your vague-but-strong feelings about colour. From there, I do my research and pull it all together into a formal mood board -- style direction, palette, mood, art direction -- delivered as a PDF for your review.
-
Before pencil hits paper, I dig in. I explore your vision, gather references, and start sketching out early ideas to get a feel for the direction. If you already have a strong brief or we've worked together before, we can skip this stage and move straight to sketching.
-
Getting the bones right!
With a clear direction locked in, I sketch out the illustration -- working through composition, mood, and characters before committing to anything final.
-
One finished piece before the rest.
For series work, I complete one illustration in full first. It's the chance to make sure the style and palette feel exactly right before I carry it across the rest.
-
Almost there!
With sketches and style approved, I move into full production. There's one round of feedback here for small refinements -- but no major redirects at this stage.
-
Yours, in every format you need.
Once you've given final approval, I package up and deliver your print and digital files, ready to go.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
A discovery session is a conversation at the start of a project where we get into the details of what you need. We talk about your goals, your audience, the context the work will live in and any references or inspirations you have. It's how I make sure the illustration I create is shaped around your project specifically, not just a generic response to a brief. For smaller projects this might be a short call or email exchange. For larger ones it's a more structured conversation.
-
Before any final artwork is created, I develop sketches to explore the visual direction and composition. This is where we make sure we're on the same page before I invest time in finished illustration. It's much easier to change direction at sketch stage than once colour and detail are in. You'll have the chance to review and give feedback before anything is finalised.
-
Visual direction is the overall look and feel of the illustration, including style, colour palette, mood, composition approach and how the work will feel across a set of pieces. Getting this right early means everything that follows feels cohesive and intentional rather than like a collection of separate decisions.
-
Two rounds of revisions are included in every project. That's usually plenty to get things exactly right. If you need additional changes beyond that, they're billed at my standard hourly rate, and I'll always let you know before any extra charges apply.
-
It depends. If you have an established illustration style and need additional assets that are consistent with existing work, that's something we can discuss. What I won't do is replicate another illustrator's style directly, both for ethical reasons and because it usually produces weaker results than developing something genuinely suited to your project. If you're building something new, I'd always recommend developing a visual language that's specifically yours.
-
My process is mostly digital these days -- Procreate and Adobe Creative Suite are my main tools, and honestly the speed and flexibility are hard to argue with. That said, I have a traditional fine art background and still paint in watercolour, ink, and gouache for my own work. If you have a project where getting hands-on with real media makes sense, I'd genuinely love to hear about it -- any excuse to get back to paper.
-
A hero illustration is a large, detailed piece that anchors a page, campaign or publication. It does a lot of visual heavy lifting and is usually the first thing your audience sees. A spot illustration is smaller and simpler, used to support text or break up a layout. Icons are the most reduced form, simple graphic marks that represent ideas or actions clearly at small sizes. Most projects use a mix of all three.
-
An illustration system is a cohesive set of visual assets built to work together across multiple formats and applications. Think of it as a visual toolkit: hero illustrations, spot illustrations, icons and supporting graphics that all share a consistent style, colour palette and logic. It means your brand or project looks intentional and coherent whether it appears on a website, in print, on packaging or across social media.
-
Every project is different, so I don't publish fixed rates. Pricing depends on the scope, complexity, usage and timeline. The packages on this page are a starting point to understand deliverables, and most projects are quoted individually after an initial conversation. If you have a budget in mind, tell me upfront. I'd rather have an honest conversation about what's achievable than waste your time or mine.
-
Again, it depends on scope. A single illustration might take one to two weeks from brief to final artwork. A full illustration system for a brand could take six to ten weeks or more. Timeline also depends on feedback turnaround on your end and where your project sits in my schedule. If you have a deadline, tell me early and I'll let you know what's realistic.
-
Yes, and I enjoy it. I'm used to working within existing brand guidelines, alongside other creatives and within agency workflows. I can work directly with a creative director or art director, adapt to your internal processes and deliver print-ready or screen-ready files in whatever format your team needs.
-
AI can generate images quickly. What it can't do is understand your audience, make considered creative decisions, or produce work that's genuinely, specifically yours. Every illustration I create starts with a real conversation about what you need and why. The result is artwork with intention behind it, not just pixels arranged to look plausible. There's also the small matter of copyright: AI-generated images carry unresolved legal risks around ownership and originality that custom illustration simply doesn't.
