LARGE SCALE ARTWORK
Corinda’s Coles Local
Coles Local commissioned an original mural for its Corinda store, part of a national program pairing each store with a local artist. The brief was to create artwork that felt genuinely of the place: a portrait of Corinda made by someone who knows it, not a generic backdrop. The work needed to fill multiple walls across the store and hold together as one cohesive world.

Spanning multiple walls across the store, with some stretching up to 80 metres long, the mural is one of the largest pieces I've produced. Rather than one large scene, it's built from individual illustrated elements placed along the walls, each a small moment from Corinda life. Across that much space, it reveals itself gradually as people walk through, like a series of quiet stories unfolding.
The subject matter came out of time spent in the suburb: walking the streets, talking to locals, photographing and sketching the places and moments that felt truly local. Living nearby helped. What emerged was everyday Corinda life, school kids with ice creams, families at the pool, the generous gardens and wide streets, the big open Brisbane sky, and the view from Francis Lookout all the way to Mount Coot-tha and the city. Alongside the human life there's the wildlife that gives the suburb its quiet vibrancy: rainbow lorikeets, tawny frogmouths, flying foxes, green tree frogs, a brush-tailed possum, a white cockatoo.
The Solution
“You have been amazing to work with! I've been really impressed the whole way through. So professional and adaptable.”
