HISTORICAL MURAL

The Old Woolstore Apartment Hotel — Restaurant Mural

The Old Woolstore is one of Hobart's most beloved heritage hotels, housed in a 19th century wool storage facility on the edge of the city. The brief was to create an illustrated mural for the restaurant that honoured the building's history and its place in Hobart's story.

Spanning over ten metres across five panels, the mural weaves together fragments of Hobart's past: historical machinery and artefacts still present in the hotel, an illustrated map of early Hobart, local foliage and the sweep of the Derwent River bay.

The palette was kept deliberately restrained, working in sepia and monochrome tones to complement the hotel's warm, heritage interior. The result is something that feels like it belongs there, part of the building's story rather than decoration applied to it.
