Creative direction

The illustration system needed to feel bold, friendly and accessible to young readers, while working alongside real photography of the featured women.

Six original characters were developed to represent different archetypes that kids could identify with, each paired with a custom icon that captures their area of manufacturing. The characters bring energy and personality to the book, giving young readers someone to connect with before gender stereotypes have a chance to take hold.

Supporting spot illustrations were created throughout to complement the photographic pages, adding warmth and visual variety while keeping the tone consistently upbeat and engaging.

Deliverables Character design, icon design, spot illustrations, comic strip sequences and supporting page illustrations.
